Finally, we are talking about our favorite way to pay for college. Scholarships! This week, we will dive into the 67% of high school students who depend on Scholarships to pay for college. According to ThinkImpact.com, 22% of high school seniors will receive an academic scholarship from their respective university and only 2% of high school senior athletes will receive a scholarship. We advise our clients to focus on external scholarships such local and community foundations.
Over the many years of assisting high school students with scholarship applications, we believe lack of TIME MANAGEMENT is preventing high school seniors from completing scholarships.
People, not just high school students, assume completing a scholarship will only take an hour or less. This can only happen if you are prepared. The essay is already written. You have a copy of your transcript. The letters of recommendation have been submitted. You know your test scores.
Our top advice to combat this obstacle is.......
Set a weekly time slot to complete scholarships. Applying to several scholarships increases your chances of winning scholarships, but you have to apply.
There needs to be an accountable partner. I suggest a parent or college readiness coach wink wink to make sure scholarships are completed and submitted. Senior year is super busy and this will be put on the back burner until it's too late.
Writing the scholarship essay. You will be amazed at how many students will allow the scholarship essay to stop them from applying for scholarships. If possible, use the holiday break to help them draft their scholarship or contact us here. We will be open on December 29, 2024-January 3, 2025.
